Dulce Panda Creamery - Weatherford, Texas

I had the absolute pleasure of photographing the newest (and coolest) ice cream shop in Weatherford, Texas by the name of Dulce Panda Creamery. What started out as a meet n’ greet for a job opportunity in a new-to-me city turned out to be an introduction to the one and only Robyn Padilla. While sitting down chatting over coffee, Robyn told me all about their plans for the future shop, and I knew right away it would be special. Robyn & David Padilla invited me to check out their new shop a few months later, take a few photos, and of course sample the best hand crafted ice cream made in house. If you’re in the DFW area any time soon, RUN to Dulce Panda Creamery and support some of the sweetest business owners I’ve had the opportunity to work with. Keep your eyes peeled for more Dulce x Cozi collabs this year!

Front Porch Photos by Cozi

What started out as a year of possibilities quickly turned into a time and space that was unrecognizable. For many of us in the touring community, we were either already on the road or packing our bags when the “Covid-19” news broke. One by one, each tour or show that was booked had cancelled with no promise of new dates (that would stick). Live music and photography as I knew it was put on an indefinite hold, and I didn’t know how to deal. The music community has served as a second family to me for ten years, one that I miss terribly. The all-consuming thoughts that I had were: “Does everyone have cash to cover bills? Has anyone gotten sick? What if I get sick? Will I see my friends again?”  I spent some time reflecting on what I could control and tried my best to remain calm after every jarring headline was published. It felt like drowning, like my friends and I just lost everything we had ever worked towards in the industry. After a few weeks had passed, I knew things wouldn’t go back to “normal” for a while. Reports of tours and shows being postponed until 2021 was an absolute shock, how could this be real?

Instead of allowing myself to continually get sucked back down the rabbit hole, I made the conscious effort to start giving back to the community. Working with locals and donating my time to those in need is something I normally do, but the Covid impact obviously doesn’t allow for much personal interaction. With that in mind, I thought maybe I could continue doing shoots from a safe distance and at no charge. Several of my friends had reached out and helped me cover the losses I had, which meant I wouldn’t have to worry about eviction (thankfully). I wasn’t sure how else I could possibly help during such a devastating time and with little resources. It was completely uncharted territory, but I knew I had to do something.

I researched “front porch photos” and saw so many wonderful photos pop up. There must have been thousands of photos to look through, but what got me were the blog portions. I read accounts of people suffering through job loss, sickness, depression, etc., but seeing a smiling face made a difference in their life. In a world overcome with uncertainty and loss, I knew it was time to fight for change the best way I knew how.

After posting feelers for “Front Porch Photos by Cozi” I was surprised to see how many people wanted to get involved! With safety in mind, I started booking and traveling to homes in and around Austin. So many families and non essential workers faced displacement and truly looked forward to some genuine human interaction. I was lucky enough to work with a few front line nurses who gave accounts of what was happening behind hospital walls. I have all the respect in the world for essential workers worldwide, thank you!

A dozen or so shoots later, I have a collection of photos that reflect joy and community. When nothing in life makes sense, we create. I hope this project helped at least one person, I know it made all the difference for me.

Heather and Bubba - Maternity 2020

One of my oldest and best friends is having TWINS! Heather has been a part of my life for the last 16 years and is easily one of the best people I know. When she called me and told me she’s having twins, I’m pretty sure my first reaction was “WHAT?” followed by “I’M AN AUNT!” Heather and I have shared so much life together, which makes this occasion all the more special. Mercedes, Texas was a scorcher on shoot day, so we improvised a little on location #1 (and #2). No matter the circumstances in life, Heather has always found the joy in the process (even in 99 degree weather). Thank you so much Heather and Bubba for allowing me into your lives for this special moment, you are loved.

Chris + Brittany - Engagement Photos 2019

I’ve known Chris since I was 14! He was one of the first people I met when I started high school, so when he asked me to take his engagement photos I was over the moon excited. This session was pure happiness, and I am so happy for Chris and Britt. Congrats you two!

The Devil Wears Prada - Sprint 2019

October 30 + 31 was spent traveling with TDWP during their Texas dates. This group of guys has always been so welcoming and kind, something I truly appreciate. Being given room to create with a team like this is a dream, I can’t wait for our next stretch together!

As I Lay Dying - Spring Tour 2019

March 14, 2019 was the start of working with As I Lay Dying. After weeks of travel, dozens of shows, and a ton of learning moments in between, I can confidently say that this experience made me a better photographer and a better person. I met Nick, Josh, and Jordan while out on tour in 2016 when they performed as Wovenwar. Meeting these guys changed the way I work, changed the way I handle adversity, and changed the way I see the bigger picture. Having the opportunity to work with this group will always be something special. Thank you AILD!

Joe + Nicole Wedding 2018

My favorite part of photography is the friendship. I don’t think I ever even considered that to be a part of the equation honestly, it was centered around my love for capturing moments that would have otherwise gone unnoticed.

After years of shooting, my friend group had shifted and I was more than okay with it. It led me to some of the greatest people I’ve ever met and a new life I didn't realize I needed. Meeting Joe was the start of touring with Darkness Divided, and traveling the country with them for years. I will never forget the love and kindness he showed me, even in my weakest moments.

Through all of life’s changes, I find real joy in capturing moments for people I love. Every single moment from this day felt like magic, a feeling I won’t soon forget.

Being a part of this special day will be in my heart forever. I am truly thankful to my friends Joe and Nicole, who gave me room to grow and a place in their hearts.
